Ethics training for researchers

Content    

This case-based course aims to train PhD candidates in developing the knowledge and skills they need to conduct their research in accordance with ethical principles and guidelines. All participants are invited to give a short presentation on a case of scientific misconduct.

Following topics will be discussed in the course: 

  • - Basic ethical concepts that are relevant for scientific integrity
  • - Procedures for dealing with allegations of scientific misconduct
  • - Fabrication and falsification of data, including image manipulation
  • - Publication ethics
  • - Conflicts of interest
  • - Plagiarism
Learning objectives    

Through the discussion of (real and fictitious) cases of scientific misconduct, participants in the course will

  • be sensitized about the importance of ethical behavior in scientific research      
  • improve their skills in identifying and assessing ethical issues
  • acquire a better knowledge of current Swiss guidelines for research integrity
