Good Research Practice II (GRP II)

Good research practices are of great importance for early-career researchers to foster rigorous research and tackle issues related to reproducibility. In this advanced course, relevant topics are covered such as reproducibility and replicability in experiments, reporting guidelines, writing analysis plans, and best practices in small sample research. We will provide solutions to support daily research practice, with two workshop sessions on computational notebooks and pitfalls in statistical significance testing. We will also provide recommendations to align reproducibility efficiently with a scientific career. For further information on reproducibility, visit: www.crs.uzh.ch.

At the end of the course, participants will know:

• what is the difference between reproducibility and replicability.
• how to increase transparency with reporting guidelines.
• how to write an analysis plan.
• how to use computational notebooks (R Notebooks, Jupyter Notebooks).
• best statistical practices in small sample research.
• how to avoid common statistical pitfalls.

This course is primarily aimed at PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers in the empirical sciences. Knowledge of the R programming language is an advantage. It is not required to participate in the GRP I course before participating in the GRP II course.
