Pitch your research: Sales training for researchers

Content

How you pitch is how you succeed. In this workshop, you will learn and experience the principles and benefits of selling and how to pitch your own research to a wider audience.

You may be asking yourself: why is it important for me to know sales techniques, even if I am not in a sales job? In fact, sales is not only related to a sales position. We are all in sales, every day, every second. It is a way of life and it is vital for success in your career, family, business, money & self-esteem. At the end, how you sell is how you succeed. During the workshop, external and internal factors for junior researchers will be looked at. Participants will capture the fundamentals of sales, techniques and then learn how to master your own pitch. Additionally you will learn more about body language, on and off screen and how this can influence your pitch as well. Part of the workshop are 2 pitches, the elevator pitch and the boardroom pitch which will be presented back to the group on the final day.

Course objectives

In this workshop you will learn the fundaments of sales and how to pitch successfully. This method can be used for your research or any other topic. For this, it is important to know your positioning and value in the market. The key enabler if you are successful or not is how you sell yourself. In this workshop, you will learn the principles of selling and how you can effectively use them in your private and professional life. The clear positioning will not only boost self esteem, it helps to improve communication, negotiation, persuasion as well as how to close deals (of all kinds). You will also get to know the basic sales techniques and process and how to master your pitch to a wide audience, both academic and non-academic.
