Making science videos for the web

Content

Short web videos on social media have seen a dramatic rise over the last years, also for science channels. They represent a new and efficient form of science communication, and even academic journals are increasingly accompanied by short web videos.

In this do-it-yourself workshop you will create a short web video out of your research, either animated or with live footage that you shoot yourself. You will first write your research story, to then shoot or animate the web video. Low-budget solutions, mobile techniques and useful software will be presented. You will however learn to use the presented software yourself during the workshop, with assistance provided.

Course objectives

Participants will:

  • write their own research script
  • learn to use software and techniques in an assisted DIY-manner
  • plan, shoot and edit the movie yourself
  • render the final film ideally for web usages
